The aim of the Arco Iris project is to use the Spanish language as a tool for learning across the curriculum (CLIL = Content and Language Integrated Learning).
Literacy and numeracy skills are acquired in the German language, whilst lessons in general studies, music, PE art and crafts take place in both German and Spanish in the form of co-teaching. Beginning in Year 1, the pupils have three hours of Spanish per week, two of them with the support of a Native Speaker Teacher, who works together with a specially qualified class teacher. From Year 3 onwards the pupils have English lessons for 2 hours a week, as well as continuing with the Spanish language lessons.
