The aim of the FIP project is to use the French language as a tool for learning across the curriculum (CLIL = Content and Language Integrated Learning). Literacy and numeracy skills are acquired in the German language, whilst lessons in general studies, music, PE art and crafts take place in both German and French in the form of co-teaching.
Beginning in Year 1, the pupils have one hour of French per day (5 hours a week) with a Native Speaker Teacher (locutrice native) who works together with a specially qualified class teacher. From Year 3 onwards the pupils have English lessons for 2 hours a week, as well as continuing with the French language lessons.
The FIP project is part of a concept that begins in primary school and continues at secondary level up until the school leaving certificate (Matura) under the name FIPS (Français intégré aux projets dans le secondaire).
